Our Daily Schedule

Our curriculum and activities focus on social skills, exploration, and critical thinking in a fun and welcoming environment. While there is always something new and exciting to do at preschool, our daily schedule and routines remain the same so that children experience a sense of comfort and task-mastery. Every class session includes:
  • The large motor play portion of NSCCP daily session promotes physical health, coordination, safety and strength. We at NSCCP are fortunate enough to have both an outdoor play area as well as an indoor play area for rainy days in the Pacific Northwest.
  • We have a class meeting each session to discuss the day. For older children this time segues into Teacher directed group learning about our theme or school basics like beginning literacy and the calendar. For younger children, class meetings segue into story time.
  • The largest portion of the school day is free choice time. Children self-select from several areas of play, projects, and activities. During this time a child may move from the Block and Construction Area to Dramatic Play, and then explore in the Art Room. Or, a child may choose to work at the Sensory Table or in the Life Sciences Area exclusively. Adults in the classroom join in children's play as invited, model problem solving strategies when conflicts or difficulties arise, and supervise projects for safety.
  • Parent education and discussion time
Enrolled parents and caregivers receive two to three credits in Parent Education from Lake Washington Technical College per quarter of class participation.
  • Families take turns providing a simple but delicious and nutritious snack food for the class. For the safety of all our members we are a NUT FREE school. We require that all snacks brought into the school are free of nuts and nut products.
  • Clean up time
During clean up time, adults and children clean up the preschool together. Through activities like clean up, we encourage a sense of ownership and responsibility for our program in all of our participants.
  • Circle time and good-bye gathering
Circle activities center on movement, music, imaginative play, and storytelling.
